What is Earth? It is a huge sphere of rocks & soil covered with water and surrounded by air. The atmosphere surrounds the Earth and is very much a part of it. The atmosphere is a mixture of gases. It comprises Nitrogen which makes almost four-fifth of it and Oxygen-a little more than one-fifth. The other gases are present in small quantities. All the constituents of atmosphere have their own importance in supporting & protecting life on the Earth. It helps in burning, breathing & absorbing the harmful radiations from outer space. There would be no life on Earth without the atmosphere. The envelope of atmosphere surrounds the Earth & extends to 1600 km above the surface. We can surely call this envelope as 'Umbrella'. This gallery highlights the importance of atmosphere for the exhistance of life on the Earth & making this planet unique in the universe. The exhibits give you an idea about the structure & variation of atmosphere with height, the atmospheric pressure, the composition of air, the gas laws, the application of air pressure in our day-to-day life, concept & transportation of air pressure etc. The hands-on exhibits on aerofoil, sucking funnel, air machines, air brakes, gliding rider etc. will make visitors understand the applications of air pressure in flight, industries, hovercraft etc. |

Life on Earth is driven by energy. Plants & animals harness energy from nature. Energy comes from different sources which are broadly classified as renewable & non-renewable. Hall of energy is aimed at educating the public and students anout different forms of energy viz. mechanical, electrical, heat, light, magnetic, sound & chemical. It also gives information about their production & practical applications, environmental issues, world energy reserves, future possible sources of energy etc. through interactive exhibits. |
