Power is costlier than 'no power'
- Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha
Owing to faster growth and increasing
population, the electricity demand in India is increasing rapidly. Presently coal provides
68%, gas 8% and hydro-power 14% of the electricity.The non-renewable energy sources like
coal, gas, oil etc. are limited. Energy security for such a huge country can be provided
by a diversified portfolio, which must include Nuclear Power.
The 'Hall of Nuclear Power' covers different aspects of nuclear energy in a lucid
and user friendly way. It explains principles of nuclear power, energy generation methods,
fuel processing, public safety etc. through interactive exhibits. inforamtion panels,
models and animations. The exhibition provides an exciting experience of visiting a nuclear
power plant virtually. In this exhibit, visitors can undertake a journey,
virtual walk-through, of a typical nuclear power plant on a large format projection system
in which various aspects of nuclear power generation are explained using 3D models and
animations. A visit to this hall will certainly
dispel many myths associated with the nuclear power like safety from radiation, waste fuel
disposal etc.
