SOLAR ECLIPSE OBSERVATION
(15th January 2010)
The Solar
Eclipse observation was organised on 15th January 2010 at the Nehru Science Centre. The
centre made an arrangement to take the eclipse images on screen as well as to see the
eclipse through telescope with solar filter. Solar goggles were also made available. In
Mumbai the partial eclipse was seen, hence the computer simulation on LCD TV was done to
see annular eclipse as seen in South India.

The Western India
Science Fair was organised from 16-19 December 2009 at Nehru Science Centre.
In this science fair students and teachers, who were the winners of State level Science
Fairs had participated and displayed their creative talent in the form of innovative
Science Projects and Teaching Aids. It
was organised in association with Education as well as Science & Technology
Departments of various States of Western India viz. Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh,
Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan. In all 62 projects were on display by about 100
participants.

ANNUAL INTERSCHOOL SCIENCE QUIZ CONTEST
(12th December 2009)


The final round of Interschool Science Quiz
Contest for Marathi medium schools was conducted on 12th December 2009. Four teams
selected from two semi-finals participated. About 200 students & teachers from
finalists schools were present to cheer-up participants.
Result of final round:
1st Prize : IES Digambar Patkar Vidyalay, Dadar
2nd Prize: D.S.High School, Sion
3rd Prize : Raja Shivaji Vidyalay, Dadar
&
Saraswati Secondary School, Thane
The quiz was jointly organised by Rotary club of
Bombay Pier, Rotary club of Bombay queen city & Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai

NATIONAL LEVEL MEGA PAINTING CONTEST
(10th December 2009)



The Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai
organised National Level Mega Painting Contest on 12th December 2009, on the topic 'Save
Fuel Yaani Save Money'. In all 204 students participated in the painting contest ans 50
teachers/escorts accompanies the students. Each school was requested to send 5 students.
The topic for the contest was announced in the poster itself so that students could come
prepared. A workshop on 'conservation of petroleum products' was organised for
accompanying teachers/ escorts. In all 8 paintings were selected for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5
encouragement prizes. Sh. T.S. Prabhakaran, Director, PCRA, Mumbai was the Chief Guest for
the prize distribution.

NATIONAL SCIENCE SEMINAR 2009
(26th September 2009)
The National Science Seminar 2009 was
organised at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai on 26th September 2009. Topic
of the seminar was 'Chandrayaan: Promises & Concerns'. The objective
of the Science Seminar was to inculcate a spirit of scientific enquiry and analytical
thinking in the minds of young students. The
Science Seminar was held on a competitive basis in each State and Union Territory. The
topic of the Science Seminar was deliberated from Block Level. Two winners from each block participated in District
Level Competition. Two winners from each
District Level participated in State/UT Level contest and only one winner from each State/ Union Territory was
eligible for National Level Competition.
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President, Republic of
India inaugurated the Seminar and Dr. M. Annadurai, Project Director,
Chandrayaan-1 & 2, ISRO satellite Centre, Bengaluru was the Chief Guest for
Valediction & Prize Distribution.

In
all 33 students from different States & Union Territories participated in the Seminar
and 10 students were declared as winners.
